Newborn · 5–14 days

You get about two weeks of this.

The curled legs, the hands that still want to be near the face, the weight of a baby who has not yet unfolded. It goes at around a fortnight and it does not come back. That is the whole reason this session exists, and the reason we hold your due-date month rather than a date.

Sessions run 2–3 hours

Heated studio in Epping

A spotter on every posed shot

Why now

Nobody regrets it. Plenty regret waiting.

You are tired, your house is a state, and booking a photographer is somewhere below sleep on the list. We know. Binh and Lin are parents of three, so this is not a theory to us.

Here is the honest reason to do it anyway. In the first fortnight your baby still holds the shape they held inside you. Knees drawn up, fists near the chin, that comma of a spine. By week three they have begun to stretch out and stay awake, and the newborn photographs everyone pictures in their head are no longer available. The phone in your pocket already has four hundred pictures of these two weeks. In a year you will not be able to find them, and none of them are on a wall.

One session. One afternoon you barely remember. Then something framed in the hallway that your child grows up walking past.

Safety

The question you are actually asking.

You have seen the pictures where a baby appears to be balancing on their own hands, and you have wondered whether that is really alright. Fair question. Here is exactly how we work.

The room is warm

The studio is heated well above room temperature for the whole session, because a warm baby sleeps and a cold baby does not. Bring a singlet and expect to be too hot yourself. That part is deliberate.

Hands on, every time

There is a spotter with hands on your baby for every posed shot. Not nearby. Touching. If a pose cannot be made safely with someone holding on, we do not make that pose.

Composites, not stunts

The famous poses that look unsupported are built from two frames, in each of which an adult is holding the baby, joined afterwards in editing. No newborn is ever balanced or left unheld. Ever.

Hygiene

Wraps, blankets and props are laundered between sessions and hands are washed and sanitised throughout. If anyone in our house or yours is unwell, we move the date and there is no penalty for doing so.

The baby sets the pace

If your baby does not want a pose, that pose does not happen. We move on. There is no shot on a list that matters more than a settled baby.

You are in the room

You stay with us the entire time. Feed whenever you need to, take the baby back whenever you want to, and ask us to stop whenever you like.

Booking timeline

You cannot book a date. So we book a month.

Babies ignore calendars, so newborn bookings work differently from every other session we run. This is the whole sequence.

01

Enquire at 28–34 weeks

Send us your due date and roughly what you have in mind. We reply within one business day with what is still open around that month.

02

Reserve your due-date month

We hold capacity across the whole month rather than a fixed day, which is the only honest way to do it. We take a limited number of newborns per month so that nobody is rushed.

03

Confirm when the baby arrives

Message us from the hospital, or whenever you surface. We set the actual date then, usually within a day or two of hearing from you.

04

Photograph at 5–14 days

Mid-morning, in the heated studio, for two to three unhurried hours. Then your reveal follows two to three weeks later.

Left it late, or reading this with a newborn already asleep on you? Ring 0450 255 413 rather than emailing. We keep a little room for exactly this.
